I have been working for more than 2 years as a freelancer. Here I am posting my preferences for the freelancing websites. I will write about every sites in days.

Everyone is invited to write about there preferences.

1. RentACoder

This is the most popular freelancing site. A huge number of projects come everyday. To my knowledge, about 200 projects come on an average everyday. Coders can register without any registration fee. So its easy for the coders to get started and bid for projects. But one major problem here is, the price of the projects are lower than any other freelancing sites as lots of coders can bid in a project. But for the beginning, its much easier than other sites to get a project here. One can find from very small projects to very large projects here.

On an average 12-18 bidders bid in a project. But of course there are some projects that are very easy and you will see over 50 bids is placed. Again, some projects are very difficult and only specialists in the required technology can bid in those projects. So if you are specialist in a not so common technology, then you may need to wait for some days to get a project posted that matches your specialty, but you may expect that you are getting the project and the price will be pretty good as there wont be bidders to bid unreasonably low amount.

2. GetACoder

GetACoder is a site where mostly large projects are posted. But you will find small projects also. GetACoder gives a little bit coder friendly environment in terms of project price. Because the lowest allowable bid is $20 here. But one problem is, it distinguishes between premium users and normal users. It charges $5 extra for each project won from the coder who is not a premium user. Again some of the projects are restricted for normal users, meaning you will have to be a premium user to bid in those projects. In this site, programmers usually dont bid unreasonably low amount, which is good side for working in this site.

3. Guru

4. odesk

Odesk is very different than the other freelancing websites. In this site, coders bid in projects at a hourly rate and projects run for a predefined range of hours. If the project requires more features to be implemented, then it can be extended. The buyers take interviews to the coders they like. The interview is taken by phone call or chatting. The interview time is set be email or messages. When the buyer wants to employ a coder, the project starts. Odesk itself has its own way of tracking the hours worked. It has some very good softwares that the coder must install in his machine and Odesk tracks how many hours are really worked for that project. The buyers get a fairly good understanding that the hours they are paying for are really used for his project purpose.

Coders can give online skill tests for free on different technologies. This shows the level of expertise and the buyers are often motivated when they find a coder who has a good rating in the related technologies.

Fixed budget project also comes to Odesk. It works just like the other sites. The only difference is that the coder must face the interview process.

5. GetAFreelancer

This is another very popular website to freelancers. Many projects come in this site everyday. The projects are in different platform. Lots of freelancers are registered in this site. In this website, getting a project is very competitive. Many programmers bid in a single project. Often it is a competition between 100+ coders. Minimum bid amount in this site is $30 which is good.
